Open Hardware Summit in Montréal
Went up with some friends who are building a digital theremin
Canada does a really good job supporting cooperatives compared to the US (at least based on my anecdotal experience in both cases).
Kouign Amann
The bagels sucked. I liked the bagels I had in New York better.
I did, however, have a very good pastry called Kouign Amann Delicious cake made of butter, sugar, and bread (in order of amount). One of the people in the group I was staying with wanted to go to a café named after the pastry one morning, and after eating it, I was thinking about it for the entire rest of my trip.
After I came back, I tried making the pastry using this recipe (conveniently based on the exact same patisserie I happened to visit), and it only took one failure to successfully make one.
Hackerspaces
visited several very cool hackerspaces. don't remember the names of the places i visited, but they were all incredible. saw a cool sculpture.
Also visited ResistorNYC while i was in New York and it was very impressive.
